Aerial view over Lake Sils and the Upper Engadin mountains in summer

10 NIGHTS · MULTI-REGION

Summer Coolcation Grand Family

Multi-generational Alpine escape.

CUSTOMIZE JOURNEY

A multi-generational summer journey requires a different kind of pacing.

Summer Coolcation Grand Family is arranged across just three substantial bases over ten nights: Zürich, Pontresina and Andermatt. The limited number of moves allows the journey to open gradually, beginning in the city before shifting into the higher landscapes of the Engadin and concluding with four nights in the Urseren Valley.

The structure is designed around shared geography rather than identical schedules. Some family members may want a more active mountain day; others may prefer a slower morning, time at the hotel or an easier excursion. The journey works because those different rhythms do not need to compete.

The Glacier Express also changes the character of one of the major transitions. Rather than treating the movement between the Engadin and Andermatt as lost time, the rail journey becomes part of the experience itself — a shared day within the wider arc of the trip.

A note on the journey

Multi-generational travel works best when togetherness is not confused with constant coordination.

We do not expect every traveler to want the same mountain day, the same lunch or the same pace. This journey therefore leaves deliberate room for parallel choices within each base.

Zürich provides an easy opening to the journey. Pontresina introduces the Engadin at a slower, more alpine rhythm. Andermatt then gives the final four nights enough continuity to settle rather than immediately begin moving again.

The spaces between scheduled experiences matter as much as the experiences themselves. Open afternoons allow the family group to adjust around weather, energy and individual preference without making the itinerary feel incomplete.

The intention is simple: enough structure to make the journey coherent, but enough freedom for different generations to enjoy Switzerland without having to experience every day in exactly the same way.

Stays

01

Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich

Zurich · 3 Nights

Why here

Zürich is selected as the opening base because it allows the journey to begin gently before moving into the Alps.

The Mandarin Oriental Savoy places the family in the centre of the city, close to the lake and the historic core, which keeps the first days geographically simple.

For this journey, its role is less about creating a resort stay than about providing a precise urban starting point: enough structure to begin exploring, but without introducing unnecessary transfers immediately after arrival.

02

Grand Hotel Kronenhof

Pontresina · 3 Nights

Why here

Pontresina is where the journey changes character.

After Zürich, the Engadin introduces a broader alpine landscape and a different summer rhythm. The Grand Hotel Kronenhof provides a substantial base from which the family can approach the region at different intensities rather than treating every day as a single group excursion.

Its role in the journey is to make the Engadin feel like a stay rather than a sequence of mountain outings — allowing more active plans and slower days to coexist naturally within the same base.

03

The Chedi Andermatt

Andermatt · 4 Nights

Why here

Andermatt is intentionally the longest stay of the journey.

After the movement from Zürich through the Engadin and across Switzerland by rail, four nights create a more settled final chapter. The Urseren Valley provides a different alpine setting again, while the itinerary retains enough flexibility for the family to divide or regroup depending on the day.

The Chedi is selected as the final base because it supports that slower conclusion: the family can remain anchored in one place while the surrounding mountain days are shaped around individual preference rather than a fixed collective programme.
